Cornelius: Located 20 miles north of Charlotte in northern Mecklenburg County, Cornelius has a population of almost 15,000. If you are looking for a home with quick access to Lake Norman, Cornelius is home to a variety of communities with lakefront homes. With approximately 70 miles of shoreline on Lake Norman, Cornelius is the perfect town if you are looking to live by the lake and have a short commute into Charlotte.
Davidson: With the Saturday farmers market, weekly summer Concerts on the Green, Davidson college sports, and quaint downtown, Davidson is a great place to call home! If you are looking for a charming small town feel, then Davidson, North Carolina is the perfect place to live. Housing options in Davidson, NC range from subdivisions like River Run or McConnell to homes in residential areas of the town. Homes range from multi-million dollar golf course homes to moderately priced family homes and apartments.Davidson is located 20 miles north of Charlotte and is home to Davidson College. Fort Mill, SC: Drawn by the lower property taxes, lower gas prices, excellent schools,and proximity to I-77 and I-485, many who work in and around Charlotte choose to call Fort Mill, South Carolina home. Honeywell and Red Ventures employees commonly live in Fort Mill for the short commute to work. Beyond easy highway access, Fort Mill has a charming, historic downtown area and the beautiful Anne Springs Close Greenway offers a great space for children and adults alike to enjoy nature.The town of Fort Mill was established 1873 and is located just south of North Carolina’s state line. Its closest neighbors are Rock Hill, SC, to the south, and Charlotte, NC, to the north. Approximately 9,400 people live inside the town’s city limits with a total of nearly 35,000 people residing within the entire township.
Harrisburg: Harrisburg, North Carolina is located on the northeastern side of Charlotte in Cabarrus County. Harrisburg is a great town for those looking for proximity to Charlotte’s university area and the surrounding business parks. With Wells Fargo and TIAA-CREF close by, many employees have chosen to call the town of Harrisburg home. This town has seen a good deal of new construction since the opening of I-485.With a relatively easy commute to downtown (30 to 45 minutes depending on the traffic), excellent public schools, and lower tax rates, Harrisburg is a great place to raise a family. The Town of Harrisburg was incorporated in 1973 and has a population of nearly 6,500.
Huntersville: Huntersville is the perfect place to live for those looking for a short commute into Charlotte and a short drive to the lake. If commuting to Charlotte, there is a park and ride CATS (Charlotte Area Transit System) bus that comes every twenty minutes to take commuters from Huntersville down into Charlotte. Huntersville offers a great family environment with all the amenities at your fingertips. There is a wide variety of housing available in Huntersville, with the average home ranging from $200,000 to $400,000. Most homes for sale are located in one of the area’s many subdivisions such as The Hamptons, Birkdale, McAuley, Wynfield, or Monteith Park to name a few.Huntersville is located 15 miles north of Charlotte, NC. Indian Trail: Indian Trail is located in Union County, 15 miles southeast of Charlotte, NC. It was one of the first bedroom communities for Charlotte and holds a lot of history and charm. It is situated alongside US 74 and close to I-485 making for an easy commute to downtown Charlotte.Indian Trail is home to roughly 34,000 citizens. Residents are drawn by the excellent schools, affordable housing, and easy commute into Charlotte. If you are looking for a newly built home, Indian Trail has lots of new developments as well as plenty of shopping options. Indian Trail was named one of the top ten best places in America to raise a family by Family Circle Magazine.
Matthews: Matthews is a large suburban town nestled between Charlotte and Monroe. Matthews has a population of approximately 28,000 and has a quaint, historic downtown. All the new construction in the downtown area has been built to match the style of the existing historic buildings.Matthews is full of history and still has many late 19th and early 20th century buildings including Renfrow Hardware, the town’s 100 year old hardware store! Each year, Matthews is home to a festival called Matthews Alive, where residents gather for parades, rides, music, and games.
Mint Hill: Mint Hill has 22,000 residents and is located in Mecklenburg County. A unique aspect of Mint Hill is its rural feel; the town is undeveloped relative to the surrounding areas. Mint Hill is the perfect place for those looking for a quaint, country feel. Charlotte is located 16 miles northeast of Mint Hill and the commute to downtown takes 30 – 40 minutes depending on traffic.
Mooresville: Located along Lake Norman, Mooresville is a great area for those looking for lakefront property. With Lowe’s headquarters, Ingersoll-Rand, and Lake Norman Regional Medical Center located nearby, many employees choose to call Mooresville their home for the short commute.Mooresville is located in Iredell County. The Town is located between the Charlotte metropolitan area and the city of Statesville. Mooresville is within 15 miles of three interstate highways and is approximately 23 miles from the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport.
Pineville: Pineville’s population is just over 4,000 people. Pineville is a suburban town in the south of Mecklenburg County situated in the Waxhaws district between Charlotte, North Carolina and Rock Hill, South Carolina. It has the charm of a small town with the amenities of a large city.Pineville is home to the Carolina Place Mall and is known for being a large retail hub. Living in Pineville allows you to have quick and easy access to all your favorite stores. Pineville also has an excellent healthcare system. CMC Pineville, one of Carolina Medical Center’s satellite campuses, recently underwent a massive expansion that transformed the facility into a full-service specialty care medical center. The town also has a historic downtown district much like Matthews and Mint Hill.
Waxhaw: Waxhaw is located in Union County and lies 20 miles south of Charlotte, and the commute to uptown is around 30 minutes. Roughly 4,000 citizens live in Waxhaw, North Carolina. Many choose to live in Waxhaw because of the large lot sizes and lower Union County taxes. Although Waxhaw is a little farther from Charlotte than some of the other towns, Waxhaw boasts lots of green space and is home to top notch schools.Residents can enjoy the antique shops and restaurants in the large, historic downtown area as well as hiking and outdoor activities at Cane Creek Park. Some new developments have sprung up in Waxhaw, but the new has been build to match the old, retaining the town’s charm.
Weddington: The Town of Weddington is located in the northwestern corner of Union County, NC, approximately 15 miles southeast of the City of Charlotte. Weddington known for its top notch schools including Weddington High School, Middle School, and Elementary School. Weddington was the first big bedroom community of Charlotte and the commute is a bit shorter than from Waxhaw. Previously mandating a minimum lot size of 1 acre, Weddington is the perfect community for those looking for large lot sizes and a heavily wooded backdrop. Weddington is almost exclusively residential with some shopping developments, but no industrial buildings.
